Shoreline change, erosion risk, habitat loss and permitting decisions shape the future of the Maldives and other Small Island Development States. For a future-oriented management of the coastal zones, we need data-backed intelligence which supports decision making. The EU-funded COASTS project brings together Earth observation, in-situ measurements and hydro- and morphodynamic modelling in one platform built around those decisions. We want to shape the solution to your everyday work and challenges.

That’s why we are hosting a COASTS workshop as a side event of the Space for Island Nations Conference (SINC 2026).

The workshop takes place on the 27th October at 2pm.

Over two hours we will:

  • Show COASTS through three real decisions: assessment of erosion and flood risk, exploration of blue-carbon potential, and preparation of a permit or EIA.
  • Let you drive the demo and set priorities: the room votes on what we try live, tells us what worked and what was missing, and decides which features matter most to your organisation.
  • Explore how scale-up gets financed and which funding models could sustain  your coastal management project
  • Hear directly from funders: a panel of international financial institutions and funders responds to the results and your questions.

The workshop is by invitation only. If you would like to take part, contact iczm@eomap.de or speak to Philipp Bauer at the conference.

We look forward to working together towards reliable, evidence-based coastal management for island nations.
